The brief

To select lighting which is efficient, cost-effective and easy to install to highlight One Marylebone’s Neoclassical inspired architecture.

“The teams at EPS lighting and ErosPhos have guided through every step of the project. They successfully demystified the buying process for us by providing a seamless service between product and design, the end result is stunning.”

The Project

Situated in the heart of London is the imposing One Marylebone building. Originally a church, it was built in 1828 to the design of Sir John Soane to celebrate the defeat of Napoleon. Now home to two hireable spaces the building boasts a grand, ionic portico and belfry tower.

The owners decided to take advantage of the facility’s dramatic architecture to create an inviting environment both inside and out, especially at night. They contacted EPS Lighting for LED lights and a lighting controls system to achieve their mission.

“Lighting had to be efficient, cost-effective and easy to install. Based on these criteria we selected high-output, exterior-rated LED fixtures. Working with the owners and lighting designers ErosPhos we provided a flexible yet dramatic lighting tool for the events team,” describes Russell Vanstone, Technical Director at EPS.”

To allow for the variety of events held on site, we built in the ability to override the automatic controls. The system also includes a DMX input for a theatrical lighting desk, allowing event users to control façade lighting to match the requirements for specific events.

Russell concludes, “The lighting versatility, the simplicity and the output of the system greatly justifies the investment. Now when visitors go the old church, their wedding journey starts with a beautiful experience of colour that hopefully continues throughout their lives.”
